FESTIVE GRENADA
J'OUVERT
Grenada’s largest cultural event is Carnival and it takes place annually during the month of August. Scores of visitors and Grenadians resident abroad come to the island to take part in the celebrations that lasts about a week, climaxing on the public holidays Carnival Monday and Tuesday.
The origin of Grenada’s Carnival is deep rooted within the island’s history and dates back to the early years of colonization and slavery. For instance, the Jab Jab character, seen J’ouvert morning emerged as a result of slaves covering themselves with mud, molasses or charcoal as a disguise while mocking their masters during a celebration prior to the start of the Catholic Lent period.
J’ouvert, from the French words “jour ouvert” meaning the opening of the day, starts literally at the dawn of the day on Carnival Monday. This event draws large crowds. Numerous persons line the streets either to spectate or take part in the revelry.

SEASONS OF GRENADA
PURE SEASONS
Grenada and the Caribbean by extension has some of the most beautiful weather in the World. There are two seasons: Dry Season and Rainy Season.
1. Dry Season
- Runs from January through May.
- Very little rainfall during this period.
- Several trees lose their leaves, and grass and small plants can turn brownish (a kind of Autumn Effect).
- Grenada takes on a slightly arid look, at least outside the rain forest interior.
- Dry Season in Grenada coincides with winter months in North America and Europeso it’s also peak tourist season.
- More Cruise Ships, maybe more stay over visitors, and of course Higher Prices at the hotels.
2. Rainy Season
- Runs from June through November.
- Grenada returns to it’s signature lush green look.
- Although it is the season for rain do not expect it to rain every day all day, far from it!!Very rarely you will have overcast skies for a few days with heavy downpours throughout the day.
- Grenada Weather on typical rainy season day =
- Sunny most of the day
- An intermittent shower or two during the day (lasts less than an hour),
- Heavier showers on and off, starting late at night until dawn (while you sleep)
- Just for Fun: A rainy day is never a perfect beach day. But if the rain catches you already on the beach, and in the water that can be a terrific experience …just try it!

HISTORY OF PURE GRENADA
TALES OF PURE GRENADA
Grenada was formed as an a result of an underwater volcano.
Before the arrival of Europeans, Grenada was inhabited by Caribs (indigenous people). Christopher Columbus sighted Grenada in 1498 during his third voyage to the new world. He named the island "Concepción." The origin of the name "Grenada" is obscure, but it is likely that Spanish sailors renamed the island for the city of Granada. By the beginning of the 18th century, the name "Grenada", or "la Grenade" in French, was in common use. Partly because of the Caribs, Grenada remained colonized for more than one hundred years after its discovery.
During the 17 to 18th century the island was captured and recaptured, colonized and recolonized by the French and British (who had the final control of the island.)
Today influences of all European colonizers can be found n the island such as tails of the blood sucking soucuyant or the names of places around the island. Feel free to ask a local of their rich history when visiting the island , they would gladly share.

PURE GRENADIAN RELIGION
PURE GRENADIAN RELIGION
About 65 percent of Grenadians are Roman Catholic. Most of the rest belong to Protestant denominations which include Anglican, Methodist, Seventh-Day Adventist, and Baptist. Most of Grenada's small Indian population is Hindu. Shango, a traditional African religion, is still practiced, generally in combination with Christian beliefs. African religious practices are especially prominent on the small island of Carriacou. The mingling of Christian and African traditions can be seen in the island's boat-christening ceremonies, which combine holy water, sacrificial goats, and African-derived Big Drum music.
SAIL GRENADA
PURE GRENADA SAILING
One sure way to get the most out of a Caribbean holiday, is to charter a yacht.
There is a wide range of options open to visitors interested in sailing. In Grenada and Petite Martinique, where the sailing is worldclass, it's possible to charter a crewed yacht or bareboat for a day or longer.
Footloose Yacht Charters Slogan is: "A yacht vacation gives you the opportunity to explore exotic islands, or deserted shores and beaches, in a way that land based vacations never can."
A number of local operators run regular day trips around the islands, and these packages generally include leisurely excursions to nearby harbours and islands with food, drinks and a variety of watersports.
